Online EMDR — with a therapist or on your own

TetaLink is a browser-based service for EMDR therapy. A therapist leads the session by video and controls bilateral stimulation on the client's screen. Without a therapist, an autopilot guides you by voice through the 8 phases of the protocol.

No sign-upfor clients — they join the session room with a code

Works in the browser on a computer, tablet or phone. Nothing to install.

Follow the dot — this is what a set of bilateral stimulation looks like: smoothly from left to right, slowing at the edges, about one cycle every 1.6 seconds.

The method in brief

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. You hold a difficult memory in mind while following a dot that moves from left to right. After several sets the memory is still there, but it usually stops hurting the way it used to.

The method was developed by the American psychologist Francine Shapiro in 1987. The World Health Organization (2013) and the UK's NICE (2018) recommend EMDR for post-traumatic stress disorder.

The work follows an 8-phase protocol, and progress is tracked with two scales: SUD (0–10) and VoC (1–7).

Two ways to work with the method

The same protocol underlies both sessions with a therapist and self-guided practice.

For therapists

The session room: video, voice and a dot on the client's screen

  • Stimulation under your control — speed, dot color, and sound in the headphones, left and right.
  • The 8-phase protocol with prompts — wording and order of steps right in front of you.
  • SUD and VoC from the client — they rate the scales on their own device and you see the number instantly.
  • Session log and voice pack — clients hear your voice in their home practice.

Self-guided

Autopilot: an 8-phase session without a therapist

An AI assistant helps you word the target, the guide leads you through the phases by voice, starts the sets and asks for your scale ratings. Built for mild to moderate distress.

A Stop button and stabilization exercises stay on screen for the whole session.

How the autopilot works

The session screen: nothing but the dot

The client sees a dark screen, the dot and your video. You see the same screen with a control panel at the side.

  • Speed and color on the flyChange them mid-set and the client sees the difference right away.
  • Sound left and rightThe tone in the headphones follows the dot and softens while you speak.
  • Scales from the client's sideThe client taps a number on their screen and it goes to you and to the log.

The 8 phases of the EMDR protocol

The order follows Francine Shapiro. TetaLink guides you through it both with a therapist and in the autopilot.

  1. History taking and planning

The presenting problem, resources and contraindications; targets for the work are chosen.

  2. Preparation

Explaining the method, a resourced state, the “safe place” exercise.

  3. Target assessment

Image, negative and positive belief, VoC, emotion, SUD, body sensation.

  4. Desensitization

Sets of bilateral stimulation until SUD drops to 0–1.

  5. Installation

The positive belief is strengthened with sets until VoC reaches 6–7.

  6. Body scan

Looking for leftover tension; if there is any, a few more sets.

  7. Closure

A container for unfinished material, stabilization, returning to the here and now.

  8. Reevaluation

At the next session: what has changed, whether the result holds, which target comes next.

An honest word about safety

Self-guided EMDR is not for everyone. We say so before you pay, not in the fine print.

Fine to do on your own

  • Mild to moderate distress: an unpleasant conversation, fear of public speaking, anxiety before an event, a memory that keeps nagging at you.
  • One clear target per session.
  • A Stop button at any moment, plus stabilization exercises.

Only with a professional

  • PTSD and severe trauma
  • Dissociation
  • Epilepsy
  • Psychosis
  • Pregnancy — without your doctor's approval
  • Suicidal thoughts

The short answers

Answers to the questions we hear most often.

What is TetaLink?

TetaLink is an online EMDR service that runs in your browser. It has two modes. A therapist runs a video session with a client and controls bilateral stimulation on the client's screen. Without a therapist, you can do a session on your own: an autopilot voice-guides you through the 8 phases of Francine Shapiro's protocol. TetaLink is not a medical service and not a replacement for therapy.

How does an online EMDR session with a therapist work?

The therapist creates a room and sends the client a code. The client opens app.tetalink.com and enters the code and a name; no registration is needed. Then it is a video call: the therapist follows the 8-phase protocol using on-screen prompts and starts the sets, the dot moves across the client's screen, and sound can alternate left and right in headphones. The client rates SUD and VoC on their own device, and the session summary goes to the log. Video is never recorded.

Who is self-guided EMDR suitable for?

Self-guided practice is only for mild to moderate distress: an unpleasant conversation, fear of public speaking, anxiety before an event, a memory that keeps nagging at you. With PTSD or severe trauma, dissociation, epilepsy, psychosis, suicidal thoughts, or pregnancy without your doctor's approval, EMDR should only be done with a professional. If you are in crisis right now, call your local emergency number (112 in Europe, 911 in the US).

How much does TetaLink cost?

The Therapist plan is ₽2,000 per month: unlimited sessions and clients, the autopilot for your own use included, and clients pay nothing. The Autopilot plan is ₽1,000 per month with the first day free. The guide's neural voice for personalized phrases is paid with tokens: about ₽6 per 1,000 characters, 1 token = ₽1; standard phrases and the browser voice are free. Payment is by card (in Russian rubles) and auto-renewal can be turned off in your account with one click.

Do I need to install anything?

No. TetaLink runs in a browser on a computer, tablet or phone. A session with a therapist needs a camera and microphone, and headphones are recommended for sound stimulation.
